ISU President Larry Dietz says he does not forsee a need for layoffs or furloughs at the campus in Normal.
During his state of the university speech Dietz lamented that higher education is in the same position it was last year at this time, no budget, no appropriation, and a lack of certainty for some months more as the legislature and Governor refuses to act.
Dietz says ISU will cope.
"We will further cut operational spending and eliminate or leave vacant more administrative related positions, and by the way that number has now reached 110 positions, said Dietz
Dietz said ISU will again float students who have state Monetary Assistance Program or MAP awards that have not been paid to them.
"In my estimation we have a moral and ethical contract to teach and support all of our students that we admit and I intend to keep that regardles of their financial ability to pay their bills here," said Dietz
Illinois State University remains strong and stable for another year according to campus
Dietz said the continuing lack of a state budget is not good for the state or for higher education. Higher education officials have been told they will have to make due with stopgap funding at least until after the election when lawmakers and Governor Bruce Rauner might be willing to pass a full budget.
