Police Tapes Raise Questions About Handling of Denny's Restaurant Incident

Bloomington Police Dept.

Local police officials will face citizens tonight at a meeting called by the the community group Not In Our Town, the local NAACP and other civic organizations. The main topic is likely to be controversial statements made by white Bloomington police officers about African Americans.

Those comments recently came to light during a trial stemming from an incident that occurred at a Denny's Restaurant in June 2013. The police handling of that incident is coming under increasing srcutiny. WGLT obtained police audio tapes of the incident. A warning: some listeners may find some of the language on those tapes offensive. GLT's Judy Valente has the report.

A community-police dialogue is planned tonight from 6-8 PM at City of Refuge Church on East Jefferson Street in Bloomington. The heads of all four of the Twin Cities' law enforcement agencies are expected to attend.
