Normal Offers Pool Discount As Apology For Staffing Issues

The Town of Normal will shave a few dollars off daily admission rates at its two public pools for the rest of the summer as a mea culpa for staffing problems that lead to unexpected closures this season.

Starting Wednesday, daily admission rates will be $5 at Anderson and Fairview pools, the Town of Normal said in a statement. Admission is usually between $5 and $7. Additionally, 2017 season passholders will receive a discount for the 2018 season if they decide to renew.

“We recognize and understand the inconvenience that has occurred from closing certain amenities due to staffing shortages, and we appreciate the patience and understanding of our patrons,” the Town of Normal said in a statement. “This has not been a typical pool season, but our staff will continue to exhaust all resources to provide a safe and friendly experience.

"Because of our staffing level has become limited, for your safety, the closure of certain amenities may continue sporadically throughout the remainder of the season, but plans are already underway to increase recruiting and retention efforts of our lifeguard staff next season and into the future.”

Anderson pool’s last day of the season is Aug. 13. Fairview will close after Sept. 4.
