Normal Council To Consider Selling Historic District Properties

Two houses located in the Old North Normal Historic District could see renovations in the coming years. The Town of Normal purchased them last year in a move to convert them from multi-family homes to single family homes. Two buyers who each plan to purchase one of the buildings and surrounding land agree to take steps to prevent multiple families from living on the properties.

If approved, the town would stand to lose $100,000 on the property at 513 North School Street, but the buyer plans to spend $60,000 on renovations in addition to the cost of purchasing it. Up the road at 614 North School Street, the town would lose $150,000 with the buyer spending $80,000 beyond the costs to buy the property.

The council will also consider spending $280,000 on street resurfacing projects.
