Chris Koos says he will run for his fourth full term as Mayor of the Town of Normal. The 68-year old Koos also served a portion of a term when former Mayor Kent Karraker resigned.

Eight years ago Koos said he probably wouldn't run again. Four years ago, Mayor Koos said he would not run again and would make an effort during the term to mentor potential successors.

But, he said Thursday things have changed.

"Seeing what has happened in the community and the fact I want to be involved in it, I probably mis-spoke four years ago when I said I wouldn't run again. A lot has happened in four years and I just feel like I still have a lot to offer," said Koos.

Koos said he hopes voters feel the same way.

Koos said it will be important in the next four years to be able to react effectively to the uncertainties state government throws at cities and towns.

The Mayor declined to say whether a new term would be his final one. He said he won't put himself in that trap again, preferring to gauge it by the enthusiasm he has for the job and for making improvements to the community.

The election will be in April of next year. Potential candidates can take out petitions to run for the non partisan municipal contests late in August.

Koos made his announcement under a tree at Uptown Circle. He began with this prepared statement.
