Two Unit 5 parents have been chosen to fill vacancies on the school board.
The Unit 5 school board picked Amy Roser and Alan Kalitzky to fill vacancies created by the recent resignations of Jim Hayek and David Fortner.
Roser and Kalitzky have both served on Unit 5's Citizens Advisory Council (CAC). Kalitzky, who has four elementary students in Unit 5, will resign as CAC's president to join the school board.
“I will use my strengths and passion … to be a brand ambassador of the district and contribute to its continued growth and financial sustainability,” said Kalitzky, who works at State Farm. “I believe it is a privilege, and a responsibility, to serve our community."
Roser has two elementary students in Unit 5. She works at Illinois State University in University College.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to help guide the education of our community's youth,” Roser said.
The school board is expected to vote on their official appointments July 11. Roser and Kalitzky, both from Bloomington, will serve until the next school board election in April 2019.
"Through their actions, Amy Roser and Alan Kalitzky have shown a strong commitment to the students of Unit 5. They will be excellent additions to the board," Board President Barry Hitchins said in a statement Tuesday.
A third vacancy will open this summer when Joe Cleary resigns. He's leaving for a new job in California.
