A battlefield is a noisy place. And that can have long term consequences for soldiers.
An ISU researcher is coordinating a huge study of military personnel and their hearing health after explosions with a group of military scientists in San Diego. ISU Professor Tony Joseph says the first paper from the research was just published. He says the clinical practice guidelines are two to three years away.
In this conversation with GLT's Charlie Schlenker, Professor Tony Joseph starts with the goal of explaining how hearing loss from explosions or artillery fire might differ from loss associated with, say, jets, or a rock concert. Joseph says they don't have the answer yet, but have built a database to get there.
