ISU Provost To Resign

Illinois State University

Illinois State University is losing its Provost. Janet Krecji is leaving at the end of the year to become Dean of the School of Nursing at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Krejci said she's sorry to go, but she has had changes in her family situation back in Wisconsin over the last couple months.

"My husband was going to be spending quite a bit of time back at home with family. And at the same time Marquette University called again. And so we had to consider that. This certainly wasn't what I was planning. But, a couple of events intersected and that's what happens sometimes," said Krejci.

Krecji said part of her will always remain a Redbird.

"I have really been very honored to work with the most incredible group of passionate committed faculty and staff to be able to focus on student success and to work tirelessly to make sure that happens," said Krejci.

Jan Murphy will become Interim Provost in January. Murphy has been Associate Provost before in her more than two decades at ISU and is currently the Interim Dean of the College of Applied Science and Technology.

“Though we are sad to lose our vibrant and inspiring provost, we understand fully her need to choose opportunities that bring her close to home and family,” said Illinois State University President Larry Dietz.

“The entire University community can express its deepest gratitude for Dr. Krejci’s contributions to making Illinois State strong,” said Dietz.

Krejci arrived at Illinois State in 2009 as the dean of the Mennonite College of Nursing after working at Marquette for 20 years as a member of the faculty and administration. During her time as the head of MCN, Krejci oversaw the opening of the Nursing Simulation Laboratory, the addition of a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, and nursing licensure examination pass rates that consistently surpassed the national average.
