The Casualty Actuarial Society has chosen Illinois State University to receive one of four CAS University Awards. 24 schools from around the globe competed for the honor.
Actuarial Program Director Krzysztof Ostaszewski says Illinois serves as headquarters for multiple insurance companies, which helps the program succeed.
"There's a lot of industry, and they come and visit with us and tell things to students that I think are very helpful," he said.
Ostaszewski also says support from the university and cooperation between departments at ISU and with the insurance industry play a role in the accomplishment.
"There are a lot of synergies that have developed over time," he added.
The award also recognizes research done by faculty of the Actuarial Program. CAS will recognize the award winners at their annual meeting in November.
