A central Illinois composer's work leads off the Illinois Symphony Concert on Friday evening at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts.
It's a fanfare by Mark Rheume, a trombonist, music librarian for the ISO, and a composer. The symphony's new music director, Ken Lam, said Rheume used themes and quotes from the works Lam conducted with the orchestra when he was auditioning for the music director job and put them together in a kind of Stravinskyan way to create an energetic fanfare.
