Heavy equipment-maker Caterpillar Inc. plans to put hundreds of jobs in Arizona with the selection of Tucson as the location of new consolidated offices for the company's mining and technology division. Illinois, Wisconsin, and other locations around the world will lose some jobs.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced the move and said the new facility will add 600 jobs to the state's economy over five years.

The new offices will house employees in executive management, engineering, product development and support positions.

Caterpillar is based in Peoria, Illinois.

The company's existing presence in southern Arizona includes a Tucson proving ground and a southern Arizona demonstration center that together employ 300 people.
