HyVee Blue Cheese Recall

Wikimedia Commons

HyVee Grocery stores including the one in Bloomington are recalling a brand of blue cheese because of potential unwanted bacteria.

The Des Moines based company is recalling Maytag Raw Milk Blue Cheese in eight states because of possible Listeria contamination. No illnesses have been reported.

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women and kill young children, and the frail or elderly.

HyVee said all product was labeled as “Maytag Blue Raw Milk,” “Maytag Blue” or “Maytag Iowa Blue Cheese” and with PLU numbers beginning with 854089001 and with “use by” dates between Jan. 20, 2016 and May 3, 2016.
