The Hobby Lobby store in Normal is moving to a smaller location within the same shopping center.
Hobby Lobby, one of the largest tenants at the Shoppes at College Hills, will be moving into the former Gordmans location just across the parking lot, a company spokesperson said. Hobby Lobby’s current location is 79,247 square feet; the Gordmans spot is 60,186 square feet, according to a site plan for the Shoppes at College Hills on manager M&J Wilkow’s website.
“Over the years, we have established great relationships with many loyal customers,” Hobby Lobby spokesperson Bob Miller said in an email. “We look forward to providing an even better shopping experience at the new location.”
Miller declined to say why Hobby Lobby was moving or address the changing size of the store.
“An opening date has not been set,” he added. “Until the new location opens, we will continue to provide super saving and super selection to our customers at our current location at 301 S. Veterans Parkway.”
Hobby Lobby’s Normal store opened in 1999.
"We are in discussion with multiple tenants in the fashion, discount apparel, and health and beauty categories to occupy the space once Hobby Lobby relocates," said Darcy Kennelly Rutzen, vice president of marketing at M&J Wilkow. "The configuration will be determined once a tenant or tenants are selected."
Meanwhile, fashion retailer H&M confirmed Thursday it will be opening a new location at Eastland Mall in Bloomington. GLT first reported the opening Dec. 27.
H&M says the new 20,000-square-foot space will open in fall 2018.
