GLT Datebook: New Exhibition Explores Transitions

Photographer Rana Young is currently showing her work at the University Galleries in Uptown Normal. "The Rug's Topography" navigates intimacy and separation in the face of transitions.

  • The show's title was inspired by a line from a song off the album "Fantastic Planet" from the band Failure. According to Young, the album is heavily rooted in transition.
  • The artist says she's personally and artistically dealing with transition. Her former partner's transition from male to female looms large in her photos.
  • Curator Kendra Paitz says the show helps address the issues of those in the LGBTQ community and their allies.
  • The show is on view until April 1.
