KeKe and Anabelle were inspired to help those suffering after the devastation impact of hurricane season on Puerto Rico.

Two Normal Community High School juniors are organizing a benefit concert for hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico and learning the benefits of civic engagement.

  • The concert is Monday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. at the Normal Theater and features a variety of young musical performers from the community.
  • Organizers Keke Hardin and Anabelle Chinski were inspired to do the concert thanks to their sociology teacher, Stefan Robinson, who assigned the student a chance to do a community project.
  • The students teamed with Maura Toro-Morn, a Puerto Rican native who teaches Latin American studies at Illinois State University. Toro-Morn says she is pleased to see the young people embrace the values of civic engagement.
