Gender Important to ISU Student at DNC

Erik Rankin

An ISU student at the Democratic National Convention is now committed to Hillary Clinton, after first supporting Bernie Sanders. Speaking during GLT's Sound Ideas, Haley Kosik said gender does matter in this election.

"For years and years women have been shutdown, saying like, 'oh they don't have what it takes to be in politics and to rule the country.' That's not the case," said Kosik.

Kosik said the U.S. is among the last major developed countries to have a woman President.  Kosik also said she expects others feeling the Bern will switch to Hillary to keep Trump from winning.

"They want to be heard and I think they will come around when the time is right, "said Kosik "The mission is to not have Trump be in office so they'll do whatever they can to have the Democratic party win the vote."

Kosik is a Journalism and Political Science double major. Kosik and other students met with members of the Illinois delegation at the convention on Tuesday morning. She'll also continue her volunteer duties for the DNC. She said she's looking forward to Tuesday's speakers, including former President Bill Clinton.
