Four applicants have applied to fill a vacant judgeship on the Eleventh Judicial Circuit.
McLean County Circuit Judge Robert Freitag is retiring in July. The four applicants who’ve filed to replace him on the bench are Associate Judge David Butler, State's Attorney Jason Chambers, attorney Joseph Foley and attorney John Heil.
The Illinois Supreme Court announced the four applicants Thursday. The high court will appoint one of them to take Freitag’s spot until the 2020 general election.
The Supreme Court will use a screening committee to review the applicants first. The seven-member panel includes lawyers and nonlawyers from Bloomington: Dr. Ron Gifford, Jerome Maddox, Tony Morstatter, Barbara Nathan (committee chair), Darrell Hartweg, Joshua Rinker, and Todd Roseberry.
The Eleventh Judicial Circuit includes Ford, Livingston, Logan, McLean, and Woodford counties.
