Exelon Opens Jobs Spigot At Clinton Plant

Nuclear Regulatory Commission

Exelon Corporation says it is hiring more than 200 people at the Clinton nuclear power plant, a significant number of them permanent positions.

The company had held off on a number of capital projects and on hiring as plant jobs came open from resignations or retirements for much of the last year.

Exelon had projected the station in Dewitt County would close in 2017. But, the Illinois General Assembly passed an energy policy bill that offers incentives to keep the plant and another reactor near the Quad Cities open.

Exelon says in a news release it will move forward with a new auxiliary transformer, changes to a pump for water flow outside  the reactor, and upgrades to the main generator.

Marian Brisard is the Executive Director of the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce.

"Restarting these capital projects will bring new jobs, millions in local purchasing and heavy foot traffic back to area retailers," said Brisard.
