Exelon Moving Forward With Plans To Close Clinton, Quad Cities Nuclear Plants

Nuclear Regulatory Commission

Exelon Generation has taken the first step in closing the nuclear power plants in Clinton and the Quad Cities.

The company submitted formal notification of the closures to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission earlier this week. The closures are a result of a lack of momentum on an Illinois senate bill that would allow compensation to zero emissions nuclear plants that are losing money.

If the company’s plans continue, the Clinton Power Station would close in June 2017 with the Quad Cities Generating Station closing a year after that.
