Drag Show Welcomes Royalty

Sharon ShareAlike

The Illinois State University Charity Drag Show comes of age this year.  The 18th annual show is sponsored by ISU PRIDE and benefits Project Oz.  The organizer and emcee of the show is local drag legend, Sharon ShareAlike, who will share (appropriately) the stage with a variety of drag queens, plus one king, and a member of drag royalty, who was a popular contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race.

*Latrice Royale, who was in season four of Rupaul's Drag Race, is the special guest star for this year's charity drag show.  The affable Royale was named Miss Congeniality that season.

*The charity drag show also features ISU student drag queens, who are performing for the very first time.

*Sharon ShareAlike says drag is moving more mainstream and is attracting a more diverse audience.

*Sharon met Latrice Royale last year at RuPaul's DragCon, a convention for drag performers and the designers who cater to their costume needs.

*Sharon designs and makes ilicone breast plates and a spandex body suit to create a nude illusion.  Her products have been featured on RuPaul's show.

*There's a meet 'n greet with Latrice Royale after the show.

*Sharon says it will be inspirational for the first time drag artists to meet Royle, who has achieved great success in the drag world.

*Drag artists often throw in acrobatic moves into their lip synch performances, doing cartwheels and splits in six inch heels.  Sharon says she's see some spills over the years, so performers have to really limber up before a show.

*The ISU Charity Drag Show is Friday, March 25th at 7 PM in the Brown Ballroom of the ISU Bone Student Center.

*Sharon ShareAlike is also appearing at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday the 22nd as the host of the sing along version of The Sound of Music.
