A 47-year-old from East Peoria was identified Wednesday as the woman whose body was found over the holiday weekend near a nature trail northeast of McLean.
Authorities said the woman, Teresa A. Poehlman, was identified after family members provided photos of her. Preliminary autopsy results indicate Poehlman's death was a homicide. Authorities have declined to say how or where she died.
After the body was found Sunday night, the McLean County sheriff's office asked for the public's help identifying her. Police released physical details about the woman, including a necklace and tattoo.
On Tuesday, the McLean County sheriff's office (MCSO) thanked the public for their help.
Poehlman's body found around 6 p.m. Sunday by two people walking their dog on the trail at the Funks Grove Nature Preserve. Her body was found about a quarter-mile south of McLean County roads 725 East and 535 North. The Sugar Grove Nature Center and Funks Grove Cemetery are both nearby.
In a Facebook post Wednesday, Sugar Grove Nature Center announced it had reopened, including its grounds, trails, and Imagination Grove.
"While Nature Center staff does not know more than what has been revealed publicly, we do not feel that there is any threat or danger to our guests, staff, or volunteers. We'd like to thank our supporters for your kind words and understand your fears," the Facebook post read.
