Authorities are asking for the public's help as they investigate the death of a man whose body was found Wednesday afternoon in a creek near the Constitution Trail close to Veterans Parkway.

Police responded around 4 p.m. after being told a body had been found in the creek, near the bridge by the Constitution Trail, just west of Veterans Parkway. That's just south of the Shoppes at College Hills, and near several businesses including Jason's Deli, Steak 'n Shake, and a Qik-n-EZ gas station.

There have not been any early signs of foul play, although no determinations about the man's cause of death will be made until the autopsy Thursday, Normal Police Chief Rick Bleichner told GLT. The man's name was withheld pending family notification.

"That’s a critical part of our investigation," Bleichner said.

Police are asking anyone who traveled through this area, including the Constitution Trail, over the past three days and believes they may have information about this death to contact Normal Detective Brad Park at (309) 454-9527 or bpark@normal.org.

Bleichner said the location of the body was not easily visible from the trail. He said there are some overgrown trees that obscure the area.

"We believe this has occurred in the past three days, just based on some preliminary interviews we’ve done," Bleichner said.

Callers looking to remain anonymous can call McLean County Crime Stoppers at (309) 828-1111.
