Donations were still being accepted Monday for residents displaced by a weekend fire that caused an estimated $650,000 in damage to their apartment building on Bloomington’s east side.
The cause of Saturday’s fire at 1101 Gettysburg Drive is still unknown due to the extent of the damage, the Bloomington Fire Department said in a statement. The stubborn fire took more than five hours to get under control. Bloomington Fire called in help from off-duty firefighters and the Normal Fire Department.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was treated and released from the hospital.
Nearby Stevenson Elementary School served as a drop-off spot Sunday for food, clothing, and toiletries for displaced residents. There’s no more need for those items, but money and gift cards can be dropped at the school’s office Monday until 4 p.m.
