Melissa leads WGLT’s marketing, public relations, and development efforts.
Melissa previously served as Public Affairs Project Manager at COUNTRY Financial where she led community relations programming and corporate social responsibility efforts. Prior to that, Melissa provided public relations expertise to clients at Ruder Finn Chicago and Ruder Finn Los Angeles. Throughout her career, Melissa has earned several industry awards including International Association of Business Communicators/Chicago Bronze Quill and Publicity Club of Chicago Silver Trumpet.
Melissa serves the community through participation on the Bloomington-Normal Convention and Visitor’s Bureau board of directors, Bloomington Public Library board of trustees, and as a member of the ISU School of Communication alumni advisory board. She is a Leadership McLean County graduate and served on the Bloomington Cultural Commission for five years.
Melissa holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations and a master’s degree in public service from Illinois State University. Melissa is an enthusiastic Redbird and sports fan alongside her son who attends the ISU Lab Schools.

Former U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger will visit Illinois State University on Oct. 1 to screen his 2024 documentary "The Last Republican" followed by a conversation with the WGLT newsroom. It's co-hosted by WGLT and The Dirksen Congressional Center.

More than $100,000 will be invested in the WGLT newsroom and operations for expanded local news beats and audience growth. Awards from the Driehaus Foundation and Field Foundation will support continued and expanded education coverage, new economy/business coverage, plus software investments to meet the needs of our growing digital audience.

WGLT is the only small station in Illinois to receive two Regional Murrow Awards and now advances to the National Murrow Award competition.

WGLT has earned five Crystal Mic awards from the Illinois News Broadcasters Association, including first-place honors for Best Digital Presence, Best Newscast (Charlie Schlenker), and Best Investigative Report (for our reporting on the Oak Wood mobile home company).
