GLT Schedule Changes

Hello GLT Listeners,

I want you to know about some minor - but exciting - changes to the GLT weekday program schedule effective Monday, May 2, 2016.    Here’s what's new:

  • 11 AM: The 21st, a brand new show featuring news and conversations that matter statewide.
  • 12 Noon: GLT’s Sound Ideas,  Our own award-winning must-listen show covering the people, places and issues that matter right here central Illinois.
  • 1-3 PM: Here & Now, the national midday news program from NPR and WBUR.
  • 3-6 PM: All Things Considered, NPR’s flagship afternoon news magazine.

Here’s why we are making the changes:

First, GLT is excited to be among the launch partners for The 21st. This cooperative among Illinois public radio stations brings a statewide perspective to the news of the day, and features interviews with newsmakers and reporters, contributions from stations (including GLT), and calls from listeners. The 21st is hosted and executive produced by former WBEZ host Niala Boodhoo.

Secondly, the addition of The 21st moves GLT’s Sound Ideas to the noon hour, where it airs live and is more accessible to our busy audience. As you know, Sound Ideas is a must-listen for people like you who care greatly about the issues, the people, the places and the events that matter here in central Illinois.

Finally, we are no longer be airing PRI’s The World. Instead, Here & Now now airs  from 1 until 3 P.M., while All Things Considered  broadcast from 3 until 6 P.M. This was a difficult decision because of the perspective The World  brought to our broadcast day but given the uncertain budgetary environment caused by the situation in Springfield we can no longer justify the cost of the program.

To all GLT contributing listeners: thank you again for your continued support of GLT. Because of generous listeners like you, we’ve just concluded one of the most successful fund drives in station history. We are proud to have earned your confidence and support.

As always, I’m at your service any time.  Just emailor give me a call at 309- 438-2713.

Sincerely,

R.C.McBride, Interim GLT General Manager
