Tuesday, January 14, 2014 - Peru Fest informational meeting
Plan to join a group of fellow public radio enthusiasts on our next GLT vacation to one of South America's treasures, where the breathtaking beauty of the Andes awaits. You'll start in Lima, the "City of Kings", with a tour of the historical city center and UNESCO World Heritage site. You'll visit Cuzco and the Sacred Valley of the Incas. At Awana Kancha, a living museum of the Peruvian Andes, you'll learn centuries-old methods of spinning, dyeing, and weaving traditional textiles. You'll tour the Ollantaytambo ruins, the only Inca settlement that has been continually inhabited since its inception.
The Machu Picchu train gives you breathtaking views of the "Lost City of the Incas". Hidden by mountains and semi-tropical jungle, Machu Picchu is considered the most spectacular sight in South America. Your Collette guide will help you delve into the rich history of a city that remained unknown to the outside world until 1911. You will stay one night at the base of these majestic ruins and have additional time to explore Machu Picchu on your own.
Enjoy Peru's delicious cuisine (including a culinary demonstration) and folkloric music & dance, shop local markets, and tour San Francisco Monastery and Cathedral, Santo Domingo. You'll explore the Incan ruins of Sacsayhuaman Fortress, the terraces at Maras, and the salt mines of Moray.
One of Collette Vacations' expert guides will be with you for the entire trip, providing historic and cultural information all along the way. We have worked with Collette for 5 years and can't say enough good things about this company - especially the local guides. They are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. You'll find them delightful and they add a depth of understanding to your trip that you can't get on your own.
This year, we will be joined by fans of Tri States Public Radio (based in Macomb, IL) on our trip. They were excited to connect with fellow public radio supporters on their travels.
Prices above includes roundtrip airfare from Chicago, roundtrip transportation from Bloomington/Normal to O'Hare airport, tour bus in Peru, Collette professional tour guide, roundtrip internal flights, 11 meals, all taxes, fees, and transfers. We are grateful to local agency Suzi Davis Travel for all of their help with bookings.
On Tuesday, January 14th we're holding a Peru fest at Station 220 where you can learn all the details of the trip, while sampling some Peruvian delicacies and beverages to get you in the spirit of things. There's no fee for attendance, but registration is REQUIRED in order for us to provide enough food for all. Come join us and find out all about our next trip! Register now ...
