Pack the Bus with New Backpacks for Kids in Need! 2010 Dates TBA

school bus

Where: Big Yellow School Bus in front of Office Depot at the corner of Veterans Pkwy and College Ave in Normal

What: We're collecting new small, medium and large backpacks for the thousands of McLean County kids in need

Not every student begins the school backpackyear with the things they need. For local families already struggling financially, the cost of preparing for a new school year can be a substantial financial hardship.

It is estimated that nearly 5,000 students in grades K-8 throughout McLean County will meet the eligibility requirements of the Back to School Program in the next school year (Fall 2010). The goal is to provide as many of those eligible students as possible with a new backpack filled with school supplies.

backpackGLT is asking you to help us Pack the Bus! with new backpacks. We will need small, medium, and large backpacks for different age children. You can bring your donated backpack to the big yellow school bus at the corner of Veterans Pkwy and College Ave next July. Or you can contribute cash or check. A $25 donation will cover the cost of a new backpack filled with supplies for one student.backpack

We're proud to partner with Office Depot for this effort. Besides giving us a home for our school bus, Office Depot also will have a drop-off box inside the store where you can bring your donation and they will have cans on the counter to collect monetary donations. You can also purchase backpacks and school supplies in the store.
