GLT’s fall 2009 trip to China was not only an incredible adventure, it was a successful fundraiser for the station. So, we’re offering an exciting new travel opportunity that will benefit the GLT Equipment Fund with every ticket purchase. Newfoundland and Labrador’s picturesque peninsulas, rugged coastline, and dramatic Viking history combine to create an amazing learning experience.
Abundant native wildlife, distinct cultural attractions along with extraordinary educational experiences provided by Smithsonian-selected local experts create an exceptional journey to the eastern-most Canadian provinces.
Watch for puffins and humpback whales on a nature cruise to Witless Bay Ecological Reserve. Explore North America’s oldest settlement and delve into the heritage of the extinct Beothuk for whom this region is known. Enjoy a traditional Newfoundland gathering known as a “Mug Up”.
Ferry across the Straits of Belle Isle past colorful fishing villages, experience the 16th-century Basques world in Red Bay, watch for icebergs at Point Amour Lighthouse and try a local delicacy, caribou.
You’ll take an exclusive nature walk led by a Gros Morne National Park naturalist. You’ll visit a local mineral specialist for a discussion on Labradorite.
Your 12-day trip includes: roundtrip motorcoach transportation to O’Hare, roundtrip airfare to Canada, 11 nights stay at a variety of hotels and inns, 18 meals, Collette Vacations and Smithsonian expert tour escorts, transfers, luggage handling, and taxes. Each ticket purchased supports your public radio station.

Seats will be reserved through your $250 deposit on a first come-first served basis. All deposits are due to Suzi Davis by June 17, 2010 to guarantee a seat. You will need a passport to travel to Canada.
