  • Home Sweet Home Mission in Bloomington is holding a clothing drive on Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 9 AM to 3 PM at the Bloomington Walmart. Donations of clothing, shoes, winter, coats, household items and more will be accepted.
  • The Friends of the Normal Public Library are holding the Fall Book Sale on Sept. 25 from 8 AM to 4 PM and Sept. 26 from 1 to 4 PM. There's a member only preview on Sept. 24. The sale takes place in the Community Room.
  • Common Place Family Learning Center in Peoria is holding a Walk fo Literacy on Saturday, Sept. 11 at Common Place. Registration is at 8; the walk commences at 8:30AM. The goal is to raise $35,000 for literacy programs.
  • The McLean County India Association and the McLean County Museum of History present Heritage of India lectures, including "Indian Landscape and Travel," August 24 and "History of Colonial India," Sept. 28. The lectures take place at the museum and begin at 7:30 PM.
  • The Ecology Action Center in Normal is hosting a build-your-own composter workshop on Thursday, Sept. 9 beginning at 5:30 PM. pre-registration is required and space is limited. On Monday, Sept. 20 at 6 PM the Center offers Family Eco Adventure: Garbage 101. participants can learn about trash and recyclilng in our community. Class space is limited and pre-registration is required.
  • The Town of Normal offers computer and electronics recycling at the Normal Public Works Garage. You can recycle computers, monitors, copiers, phone systems, VCRs, cameras, microwaves and more. The hours for the summer at 6AM to 1:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • Second Chance for Pets in Clinton reminds you of the dangers of leaving your pet in a hot car during the summer. Cracking the window open isn't enough. Always keep your pets' well being in mind -- keep 'em cool!
  • The McLean County Arts Center in Bloomington is offering a variety of classes this summer for a variety of ages. Painting, drawing, ceramics, jewelry and more are being offered.
  • TheatresCool in downtown Bloomington is accepting enrollment for new classes beginning this spring. Each class session is ten weeks long and is open to children, teens and adults.
  • The SHARE! High School Exchange Program is seeking host fmailies for the upcoming fall semester. Students are between the ages of 15 and 18 and are from more than 30 countires.
  • The Normal Public Library is offering the A.R.K.S.(Adults Reading Kid Stuff) Summer Reading Program May 26 - August 9. Participation is free.
  • When you recycle your aluminum cans and scrap metal at Morris Tick in Bloomington, you can ask them to apply the proceeds to the Sugar Grove Nature Center account. Also, Morris Tick will donate an additional 5 cents per pound over base price for aluminum cans to the Nature Center. Types of metals accepted include aluminum, brass, copper, stainless steel, lead, radiators, appliances and even automobiles. 309-828-6084
  • The Central Illinois Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association offers a variety of services, from support groups, to wheelchair or leg braces purchases to summer camp for kids.
  • The Ecology Action Center has a new CFL recycling program. County residents may recycle compact flourescent lamps at four different locations: Facilities Management parking lot, Town of Normal; City of Bloomington Public Service Drop Off Facility behind Bloomington Public Library; Springfield Electric, Bloomington; Ecology Action Center, Normal. 309-454-3169

  • If you're facing a home foreclosure, you should know that help may be available.  Foreclosure Help and Hope offers advice for struggling homeowners.
  • Chestnut Health Center hosts meetings of Debtors Anonymous on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at 6 PM.  309-820-3500
