Travis Meadors came to GLT with a different kind of public radio experience, having served a five-year enlistment as a broadcast journalist and public affairs specialist for the U.S. Navy in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and onboard the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) before landing his “dream job” in the front office of his favorite radio station.
Although he is General Manager Bruce Bergethon’s assistant, his daily assignments put him in contact with every member of the GLT staff. He works with the program director and development staff in scheduling programming, promos and underwriting announcements, and assists the general manager with financial bookkeeping. He also manages communication traffic, distributes prizes to GLT listeners and, most importantly, makes the coffee and keeps the office candy dish full.
A native of Bloominton-Normal and graduate of Normal Community High School and Heartland Community College, Travis’ interests outside of work are as diverse as his duties on the job. He plays guitar and enjoys studying music history, drawing and painting, physical science, woodworking and home brewing. He is also a rabid fan of sports and games, and a self-proclaimed grill master. Travis says his passions would be fruitless, though, if his beautiful wife, Theresa, didn’t have the energy and patience to share them with him.
