Frank Black

Frank "The Blues Doctor" Black, Blues Host

Phone: 309-438-8910
Email: wglt@ilstu.edu

A blues fan from an early age, Frank Black convinced GLT management to give him a little air time in February 1985. The one hour show was called "Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame." Five years later, the blues had expanded to 3 hours under the name "Black and Blues." When Frank retired from construction in 1998, he was offered the Saturday night blues shift - in addition to his long time Friday night spot. You now hear Frank, his stories and GLT Blues Friday from 7 PM to Midnight and Saturday 8 PM to Midnight. There are now more than 30 hours of blues every weekend on GLT, thanks in part to the Blues Doctor, a legend in his own time.

Frank was born in 1941 in Knoxville , Tennessee and moved to Huntsville , Alabama in 1957. He grew up listening to classic radio, like WLAC and it was what he heard on the airwaves that drove him to the record store to by his first 45 rpm record, "Just Made Twenty-One" by Lightnin' Slim Hicks. He now has one of the best blues, early rock 'n' roll and country record collections in the country.

Frank is a United States Air Force veteran and a retired construction worker (Laborer Local 159).
