Bruce Bergethon has been general manager at GLT since 1990, and has worked at the station since July 1988. He has degrees in mass communications and anthropology, and has taught courses in media management, broadcast programming, film studies and advertising at both ISU and New Mexico State University. In addition to acting as GLT’s fiscal agent, he produces weekly editions of Poetry Radio and Acousticity.
Bruce has been listening to public radio since he was a teenager, and considers his decision to work in the medium, “a perfect fit for my interests in music and ideas.” He has lived in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Mexico, but central Illinois is the place he has stayed the longest.
Bruce is active in the Normal Rotary Club, and serves on a number of community boards, including the Bloomington Cultural Commission. He plays fiddle and mandolin in The Old Men Boys and Celtricity, and suffers willingly from M.A.S. (mandolin acquisition syndrome) and accordionophilia. If pressed, he will choose petite sirah or a nice Cotes-du-Rhone.
